Bird Strike Causes Fighter Jet To Drop Training Bombs Over Florida

An Air Force fighter jet dropped three dummy bombs over Suwannee Springs, Florida after it struck a bird. Officials have launched an investigation into why the bird strike caused an A-10C Thunderbolt II to drop three BDU-33s.

The BDU-33s weigh 25 pounds but are rendered inert. They are around 22 inches long and are painted blue. They do contain a small pyrotechnic charge, and officials warned local residents not to approach them.

There are no reports of injuries or damage, and authorities are still trying to locate the training munitions. The bird strike occurred about 55 miles southwest of Moody Air Force Base which is located near Valdosta, Georgia.
