Snickers is making an offer that's really, really hard to refuse. Mars Inc., the American candy company that owns Snickers, is offering to give away 1 million free candy bars, but there's a spooky catch. The federal government has to agree to officially change the date of Halloween...forever.
Halloween, of course, falls on October 31st every year. This means it can fall on any day of the week. There's currently a Change.org petition gaining popularity online which makes the argument that Halloween should be more like Thanksgiving. Instead of falling on the same number date every year, Thanksgiving is celebrate on the last Thursday of November. The petition, which was started by the Halloween & Costume Association, is demanding the federal government change the date of Halloween to the last Saturday of October instead.
Snickers shared the petition on Twitter, throwing their support behind the movement. "A Thursday Halloween? Not Satisfying. Halloween on the last Saturday of October? Satisfying. If the Fed Govt makes it official, we’ll offer 1 million free SNICKERS to America. Join the petition!," their official account shared.
"Snickers is all in on celebrating Halloween to the fullest," Josh Olken, Snickers's brand director, confirmed in a press release. "If the federal government makes this thing official, we're offering up to one million free Snickers to America. No tricks, only treats."
As of Tuesday (July 30), the petition has garnered over 100,000 signatures. Will you be throwing your support behind the "Saturday Halloween Movement?"
