Teenager Allegedly Throws 6-Year-Old Boy From 10th Floor of London Museum

A 17-year-old teenager has been arrested and charged with attempted murder after he allegedly threw a 6-year-old boy off the open-air rooftop viewing platform at London's Tate Modern gallery on Sunday.

In a statement released by London police, the 6-year-old landed on the fifth-floor rooftop of the Tate and was badly injured by the fall. He was airlifted to a nearby hospital where authorities say the child is in stable, but critical condition.

"We sent two ambulance crews, an incident response officer, a medic in a response car and an advanced paramedic to the scene. We also dispatched London's Air Ambulance and our Hazardous Area Response Team," a spokesperson for the London Ambulance service told CNN in an emailed statement.

"A 17-year-old male had remained with members of the public on the 10th-floor viewing platform," the statement from police read. "There is nothing to suggest that he is known to the victim."

Admin worker, Nancy Barnfield, told the BBC she head a "loud bang" before seeing a woman scream, "Where's my son, where's my son?" as members of the public gathered around a man who was nearby the scene.

"We did not notice the mum before, we noticed her after because she was hysterical by then," Barnfield added.

The museum, one of the most popular destinations in the city for tourists, was locked down by the museum's police as a result of the incident. The museum was later closed for the rest of the day once visitors were able to leave.
