Hiker Dies In 500-Foot Fall While Climbing Iconic Half Dome At Yosemite

A hiker attempting to reach the top of the iconic Half Dome at Yosemite National Park fell to her death according to park officials. 29-year-old Danielle Burnett was scaling the steepest part of the trail when she fell 500 feet down the rocky terrain.

The popular trail is limited to just 300 hikers per day and features a 400-foot cable climb up granite face of the rock formation to the summit which sits 8,800 feet above sea level. Burnett was reportedly on the cables when she fell.

Officials have not determined what caused her to fall and have launched an investigation. This was just the second incident on the trail since 2010. Another hiker died in 2018 after they slipped and fell while attempting the climb.
