Ellen Pompeo Just Hinted 'Grey's Anatomy' Might Be Coming To An End

The sixteenth season Grey's Anatomy premiered on Thursday (September 26). While it feels like the long-running medical drama will go on forever, there are persistent rumors that the seventeenth season will be its last. During an appearance on The Late Late Show, Ellen Pompeo addressed the speculation head on and, let's just say, she didn't deny them.

Though Pompeo successfully avoided confirming or denying whether the show's series finale was imminent, she did admit she's been thinking hard about how she wants Grey's Anatomy to come to a close. “Well, I can’t really say what I think, because if we really do what I want to do, that would give it away,” Pompeo said. “So, I’ve got to make up a lie, James! You’re forcing me to lie right now.”

Pompeo did reveal, however, that she'd love to get the original cast back together for the series finale. “But that probably won’t happen. That would be the most amazing day,” the Grey's Anatomy star said. She did admit that'd be a difficult task, though, considering “some of them were killed on the show.”

She also admitted she's already feeling the pressure not to disappoint fans. “The ending, the final episode, matters so much,” she explained. “Are you kidding me? And the fans are never going to be happy no matter what.Sopranos,Game of Thrones, they’re pissed no matter what you do. So, there’s a lot of pressure on that final episode.”

Pompeo may not have confirmed the show will end after season seventeen, however, it definitely seems possible if she's putting this much thought into the finale. Who knows, though, maybe Grey's Anatomy will run for another seventeen seasons?
