Mike 'The Situation' Sorrentino finished his 8 month jail sentence for tax evasion earlier this month. The Jersey Shore star didn't waste any time getting back into his favorite activities: GTL (aka gym, tan, laundry, as all The Situation fans know). Since returning home, The Situation has shared a couple of gym photos with his followers. In a recent Instagram post from the gym, The Situation revealed he lost 36-lbs while in jail.
On Friday (September 27), The Situation shared two full body photos that showed off his dramatic weight loss. “This is what it looks like when you turn a negative Situation into a Positive Situation,” he shared in his caption. He also added: “#clapbackseason lost 36-lbs."
After sharing this information on Instagram, the Jersey Store star opened up his weight loss journey to Entertainment Tonight. "I went to sleep every night at 10 p.m. I woke up every morning at 7 a.m. and did cardio for about an hour," he revealed. "I was practicing intermittent fasting while I was in prison. My window of intermittent fasting was between 16 and 17 hours on the weekdays, and 18 and 19 hours on the weekends."
For those unfamiliar with intermittent fasting, Health Line defines the term as: "alternating cycles of fasting and eating" and refers to it as "one of the world's most popular health and fitness trends." No food is allowed during the fasting period, however, you can eat whatever you want during periods where you're eating. Water, coffee, tea and other non-caloric beverages are allowed to be consumed during fasting periods. The most common type of intermittent fasting is 16 hours per day of fasting with an 8 hour window of eating.
The Situation also opened up about his exercise routine while he was behind bars. He revealed he'd work out "between two to three times" per day. "On holidays, especially," he continued. "Because, you know, on your birthday, or Easter or something, you're in your feels a little bit. You're like, 'You know what? Today I'm gonna do something to make my future self proud.' And I put in my three [workouts]."
"I had to continually challenge myself, whether it was in the gym, and/or diet,” he explained “I was reading books, the Bible and trying to progress spiritually as well. Because if you do not keep yourself busy in there…I saw a lot of guys that weren’t doing those things and you saw depression and anxiety take control…I felt very accomplished staying busy in prison.”
Fellow Jersey Shore cast member Vinny Guadagnino, also known as the Keto Guido, revealed that since The Situation was released from prison, he's also adopted the Keto Diet. “Mike was the first person to ever call me and ask me how the diet works, and I got him onto the keto diet,” Vinny said. “Before he went to prison, he was eating everything in sight,” Vinny laughed. “But he knew the principles of it and now he’s really applying it.”
