J. Cole is dropping his new album next year.
During Friday night’s (November 1) Day N Vegas festival show, the “Crooked Smile” star hinted that his highly-anticipated sixth studio album, The Fall Off, is set to drop in 2020. Per a fan-shot video taken at the event, Cole made the official announcement with a humorous, self-promoting political campaign that included everyone from police to lawmakers to angry protesters.
In it, the rapper makes his pledge to be the hero to restore peace in the nation. “Jermaine Cole is that hero," the speaker says in the clip. "He's a man whose humility knows no bounds. A man whose pen is so potent, each word of his verses reportedly cost $2,000. We need someone with big ideas and bold solutions. An expert in diplomacy. A candidate who can heal the inter-generational war. There is only one answer, one true unifier to heal the country. Make your voice heard. Vote for The Fall Off in 2020."
This will be Cole’s first album to follow after 2018’s KOD, which featured tracks like “KOD” and “ATM.” The LP also alludes to the arrival of The Fall Off in its closing song, “1985 (Intro to ‘The Fall Off’),” in which the 33-year-old questions and critiques the state of rap music. He previously alerted fans of its advent around the time he dropped KOD when a fan asked, “What can you tell us about ‘The Fall Off?’ to which Cole wrote back, “Workin on it."
