Texas police say that an 83-year-old woman was stabbed to death in her home by a cable installer who had previously worked at her house. When Betty Thomas didn't show up for a family Christmas party last week, her son-in-law stopped by her Irving home and found her stabbed to death in her living room.
Investigators say the suspect, 43-year-old Roy James Holden Jr., killed Thomas and then took her wallet before leaving. He reportedly used her debit card a few hours after she was murdered. Officials were able to identify Holden by using surveillance camera footage from Thomas' Ring doorbell camera and the store where he used her debit card.
Authorities said that Thomas, who worked as a cable installer for Spectrum, was not working at the time he allegedly murdered Thomas. Spectrum issued a brief statement saying they are cooperating with the investigation.
“This is a terrible tragedy, and our thoughts are with the victim and her family and friends. We are actively working with Irving police as they conduct their investigation.”
Holden was taken into custody and charged with capital murder. He faces the death penalty if he is convicted.
