The 1975 took the stage at the Sydney date of the Laneway Festival last night (February 2), and frontman Matty Healy made a bold fashion statement.
Following his announcement that he had been hospitalized the night before, leading The 1975 to cancel their Saturday set at Laneway Festival in Brisbane, Healy took the stage in a hospital gown (giving us major 1992 Kurt Cobain vibes). There was also a makeshift IV drip attached to a mic stand to his right.
“I am alive and well s*** just got way too vibey I’m still taking it easy but I’ll see you tonight for maybe quite a calm set which could be nice anyway!!” he tweeted before the band's set.
Judging by fan footage of the band's performance, it was not a calm set. The 1975 opened with its aggressive song “People” and Healy did not take it easy. Healy headbanged, danced, and screamed the lyrics of the song, probably much to his doctor's dismay.
Later on in the band's set, Healy traded his hospital gown for a black pants to round out a 13-song set list. Despite being hospitalized the night before, the singer looked to be in good health and put on another incredible The 1975 show with his bandmates.
