Two weeks after sweeping the Grammys, Billie Eilish took to the 2020 Oscars stage on Sunday night (February 9) to sing a cover of The Beatles' "Yesterday" during the In Memoriam segment, which was introduced by Steven Spielberg.
Alongside FINNEAS on piano, Eilish, 18, donned all black to hit the Dolby Theater stage for the somber rendition of the 1965 track. Among the photos and names that appeared during the segment included Kirk Douglas, Doris Day, and a moment for the late, great Kobe Bryant. "Why she had to go I don't know/ She wouldn't say I said something wrong/ Now I long for yesterday," she gentle crooned during the piano-charged performance.
Prior to the big ceremony, the singer/songwriter broke the news about her number. "Honored to be performing during the in memoriam segment for the Oscars tonight covering a song I’ve always loved. Watch with us," she wrote on her Instagram Story hours before the show.
In related news, Eilish recently recorded the theme song to the forthcoming James Bond installment, making her the youngest artist to ever record the coveted song after Sam Smith delivered "Writing's On The Wall" off 2015's Sceptre. He was just 23-years-old. Expect to hear the track, as well as others when she jumpstarts her "Where Do We Go World Tour," which kicks off in March in Miami, Florida. The trek should keep her busy until late July. Meanwhile, the upcoming 007 film, No Time to Die, starring Daniel Craig is scheduled to hit theaters on April 10.
