Jeopardy host Alex Trek offered an update on his cancer diagnosis, which he revealed exactly one year ago.
In a video message, which was shared on the game show's Twitter account, Trebek, 79, delivered a speech full of inspiration and positivity. "I'm very happy to report that I just reached that marker," the host said in reference to surpassing the one-year survival milestone for the stage 4 pancreatic cancer he was diagnosed with. "Now I'd be lying if I said the journey had been an easy one. There were some good days, but a lot of not so good days. I joked with friends that the cancer won't kill me, the chemo treatments will."
Trebek went on to detail his pain, great depression and the moments when certain bodily functions were no longer functioning. "[They] made me wonder if it was really worth fighting on," he added, further confessing that the mentality would be a "massive betrayal" to his supportive wife, other cancer patients and his faith in God.
"My oncologist tried to cheer me up the other day ... He was certain that one year from now, the two of us would be sitting in his office celebrating my second anniversary of survival," he continued. "If we take it just one day at a time, with a positive attitude, anything is possible."
