Jordyn Woods has apologized to the Muslim community after she wore a traditional Muslim garment while on vacation in the Middle East.
Earlier this week, the 22-year-old entrepreneur posted an Instagram photo that showed herself wearing an abaya —a cloak-like loose-fitting garment worn over women's clothes in parts of the Muslim world — alongside her mother, Elizabeth, and sister, Jodie, during their vacation in the United Arab Emirates. "Triplets take on the Grand Mosque #inabudhabi 🖤," Jordyn captioned the photo.
The post sparked almost immediate criticism from some of her followers, who claimed that she and her family "mocked" the religion of Islam by wearing the abayas.
"I'm sorry if I offended you but in order to enter the mosque you have to wear an abaya... In no world would I try to mock another person nor culture," Jordyn explained in response to the comment. She also captioned a separate Instagram post, "For those of you that don't know in order to enter the mosque you must wear an abaya. It was such an amazing experience getting to see the beauty of another culture."
Jordyn is currently in Abu Dhabi. However, she recently told her Instagram followers that she's decided to cut her trip short due to the coronavirus epidemic. "By the looks of it, coming home would be the best idea sooner rather than later. This is wild," she wrote. Later adding, "first available flight for us isn’t for a couple of days so I’m taking full advantage & enjoying this view 🦋🌞."
