After a brief stay at Rikers Island, disgraced movie producer and convicted rapist Harvey Weinstein has been transferred to a maximum-security state prison in New York.
Weinstein was assigned to the Wende Correctional Facility located in Alden, New York, on Wednseday a New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision official told CNN. The facility will hold Weinstein for an undetermined amount of time while authorities look for a facility that can meet his "security, medical, mental health and other needs."
The former producer was moved to the facility in Erie County, about 20 miles east of Buffalo, after he was found guilty of third-degree rape and first-degree sexual assault was sentenced to 23 years in a maximum-security prison. He's now identified as inmate 20B0584 at the facility where about 950 other prisoners are housed. The facility also houses Mark David Chapman, the man who shot and killed John Lennon and David Sweat, who escaped from Clinton Correctional Facility in 2015. Sweat was recaptured after an intense manhunt that lasted for 22-days.
Weinstein was briefly taken to Bellevue Hospital while he was held at Rikers Island jail in New York City due to high blood pressure and heart palpitations. He returned to the hospital following his sentencing hearing on March 11, after Weinstein complained of chest pains.
The disgraced Hollywood mogul still faces charges of forcible rape, forcible oral copulation, sexual penetration by use of restraint and sexual battery by restraint in Los Angeles. If convicted, Weinstein could face an additional 28 years in prison.
