Mother's Day looked a bit different this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, but that didn't stop people across the country from celebrating their mothers, and grandmothers, and all of the strong female figures in their lives — even if it was just virtually or with a phone call. Rita Wilson is also celebrating these amazing women with a brand new song called "Where's My Country Song?," and it's a tribute to all of the hard-working mothers who sacrifice so much to provide for their families.
"Where's My Country Song?" was written by Wilson and Lee DeWyze, and in the track she sings, "It's not lipstick and a red dress/ More like a name tag and a paycheck/ I wanna believe, but they don’t know me/ The radio keeps getting it wrong/ So tell me, where’s my country song."
Rita exclusively tells iHeartRadio of her new song, "I am in awe of women who work hard, sometimes without reward, and yet are able to live lives of dignity, integrity, grace. Sometimes, these women, like my mom, are unnoticed in society, but are vital contributors to our society as mothers, daughters, friends, co-workers. These are women who inspire me with their kindness, hard work, and character. I feel like I understand them since my mother was often dismissed because of her accent, and that she was different. I knew she was extraordinary. Why didn't the rest of the world see that?"
The actress/singer/songwriter has also explained of her own mother, “My mom was a homemaker. She worked hard and sacrificed, never complaining. She showed me there was honor in her work, whether it was cooking, cleaning, sewing, or caring for her children. Women understand the experience of taking pride in what they do. 'Where’s My Country Song?' is about women who are single parents, who work more than one job, who care for aging parents, or go to school to get a degree, all while balancing the challenges of their daily lives. We see them everywhere, going about their lives with quiet dignity. This song is for them."

On Mother's Day, Rita shared a long note in honor of her mom, along with a black and white photo of her. In the touching message she wrote:
"Happy Mother’s Day! My mom. I miss her everyday. I love this photo of her. She had great taste and was so elegant. My mom never raised her voice. If she was upset with you she would wait for a private moment to communicate to you. I’ve spoken about how she took pride in everything she did: cooking, cleaning, sewing, ironing. She was born in America but raised in Greece. She only went to school as far as ninth grade. But she was one of the smartest women I knew. I once asked her what she would have done if she had been educated. She said she would have lived to have been a psychologist. And that would have been perfect. People flocked to her, shared with her, laughed with her, ate food she cooked for them. Sounds so basic. Yet, in those everyday moments and actions a life of love was built. Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms who do these very things, who love this very way. I love you, Mom."
