Mary-Kate Olsen is rushing to divorce her husband Pierre Olivier Sarkozy.
According to TMZ, who broke the couple’s split Wednesday (May 13), the actress is seeking an emergency court order to speed up the process. Mary-Kate’s attorneys received an email from Sarkozy giving her until May 18 to move her things out of their New York City apartment after he allegedly terminated their lease without her knowledge.
Mary-Kate has been making attempts to ask the French banker to give her until May 30 but to no avail. What’s more, court documents procured by the outlet revealed her inability to meet her husband’s deadline is due to NY quarantine guidelines caused by the coronavirus pandemic — her only resort is to file a divorce petition. In TMZ’s words, the move would “trigger an automatic court order preventing him from disposing of her property.”
Additionally, TMZ indicates the 33-year-old also requested a prenuptial agreement be enforced in the divorce petition.
It’s been nearly a month since Mary-Kate signed the petition on April 17, which is her only option at this time considering NY courts are not processing divorce filings other than emergencies amid the ongoing crisis that’s devastated the entire state.
Mary-Kate and the 50-year-old, who have been quietly dating since 2012, got engaged in early 2014. They later married in an intimate, close-knit wedding ceremony among 50 guests in Manhattan in November 2015.
Despite the couple’s 16-year age gap, Mary-Kate defended her relationship. “Everyone has an opinion,” she told The Wall Street Journal in 2012. “I find it’s better to focus on what’s in front of you and to keep putting one foot in front of the other.”
