R&B worlds will collide when Alicia Keys and John Legend go head-to-head in a Verzuz battle on Friday (June 19).
Over the weekend, the viral battle series, which is helmed by Timbaland and Swizz Beats, announced the upcoming event with a message that read: "Let's celebrate Juneteenth with a special edition #Verzuz! @AliciaKeys vs @JohnLegend." As you know, the holiday commemorates the date of June 19, 1865, which is known as the end of slavery in the country. Keys and Legend's installment of the Instagram battle franchise, which kicked off at the top of the COVID-19 pandemic, follows the likes of competing episodes between Nelly and Ludacris, Lil Jon and T-Pain, Jill Scott and Erykah Badu and more.
For Legend, the date also marks the release of his new album, Bigger Love, which follows his 2016 LP, Darkness and Light. The new set features collaborations from Gary Clark Jr., Jhené Aiko, Koffee, Rapsody, and more.
