President Donald Trump is back to entertaining racist birther conspiracy theories. However, this time, they're not about former President Barack Obama.
Days after Joe Biden announced Sen. Kamala Harris as his running mate, a California-based law professor published a baseless legitimacy issue, claiming that Harris is not a “natural-born citizen” because her parents — an economist who immigrated from Jamaica and a cancer researcher who immigrated from India ― were not.
“I just heard that,” Trump said of the racist birther conspiracy theory during a news conference on Thursday (August 13). “I heard it today, that she doesn’t meet the requirements,”
He added, “And by the way, the lawyer that wrote that piece is a very highly qualified, very talented lawyer.” To note, the United States grants citizenship to anyone born in the country, regardless of their parents’ status and Harris was born and raised in Oakland, California.
