Lauren Alaina has released the title track from her forthcoming EP, Getting Over Him, featuring Jon Pardi. The new song, co-written by Alaina alongside Paul DiGiovanni and Emily Weisband, looks at a rebound from both sides of a relationship.
In "Getting Over Him" Alaina sings from the perspective of a girl who's been cheated on and is looking for a distraction from the pain but nothing too serious. Pardi, on the other hand, is the guy she finds to fill that role which he happily accepts.
"We were dive bar kissing / Heartbreak fixing / No strings, Saturday night / Hot like a match, that burned out fast / Forever wasn’t in our eyes / You knew it, and I knew it / And it was a da*n good time / My last call first call no falling / Just your getting over him guy," the two sing in the chorus.
"I’ve got a duet with Pardi on his album, and then he loved this one," Alaina shared in a press release, adding, "His energy is so amazing. I can’t believe I have a rebound song – but I do."
"Getting Over Him" is one of six songs on Alaina's upcoming EP due out on September 4. The project also features one other duet with pop singer, Lukas Graham on "What Do You Think Of."
"Lukas Graham’s vocal on this is ridiculous," Alaina previously shared. "I am the most nervous about releasing this one because I was so vulnerable when I wrote it. Most of my songs come from more of a sassy and empowered place and this song comes from a really broken place. But I think it’s important because it is a part of who I am. It’s a part of what I went through. And if I am going to be honest in my music, I have to share songs like that too."
Getting Over Him follows Alaina's Getting Good album which dropped in March. Stay tuned for the full EP release on September 4.
