Local Food Groups Sending Barbecue To Hurricane Laura Victims

As one of North Carolina's most delicious exports, food distributors are sending barbecue to victims of Hurricane Laura in relief efforts after the catastrophic storm made landfall at around 2 a.m. on Thursday.

Ford's Produce Company and Operation BBQ Relief are teaming up to give storm victims a chance to have a good meal. Ford's contributed seven to eight pallets of food that will be driven to the Gulf Coast by Operation BBQ Relief to be distributed to those who need it.

Patrick Ford told ABC 11, "As North Carolinians, we know what it's really like to have a storm that really devastated us. Texas has been there for us, and we're Americans. It's the right thing to do to help people out."

Vegetables, fruits, and dairy products are being sent alongside the barbecue with the ultimate goal of providing a warm, nutritious meal to families in their time of great need.

"Hopefully they'll have a warm meal... we just hope they feel that we love them here in North Carolina... we're thinking about them," Ford said.

Hurricane Laura crossed the coast as a Category 4 with peak winds of 150 mph.
