Kelly Clarkson Reflects on 18th Anniversary of Winning 'American Idol'

It's been 18 years since Kelly Clarkson won the first-ever season of American Idol in 2002 and sang "A Moment Like This," and she's now reflecting on the milestone with an inspirational message.

On social media, the singer acknowledged the anniversary with a heartfelt note and throwback photo from the big night. She shared, "18 years ago today was the finale of the first season of American Idol and it changed my life! I’m still hustlin 18 years later because I know I am blessed to have the opportunities and I still love my purpose! Find your purpose! Seek out what keeps that fire in you burning."

Kelly won the first season of American Idol, taking the lead over Justin Guarini. Last year on her talk show, the Grammy-winning artist explained of the lasting effect it has had on her career, "I would have never thought that show would have had the impact. I mean look at what it did: the domino effect was crazy."

It's been almost two decades later and Clarkson has released eight full-length albums, her Greatest Hits compilation album, toured all over the world and has scored a long list of hit singles including classics like "Since U Been Gone," "Behind These Hazel Eyes," "Because of You," "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)," and many others. Clarkson has also collaborated with artists including Reba McEntire, Trisha Yearwood, John Legend and more.

Kelly has also been nominated for 15 Grammy Awards, of which she has one three, among earning many other awards and accolades.

Beyond her music, Kelly recently hosted her own talk show and is a coach on singing competition show The Voice alongside Blake Shelton, Nick Jonas and John Legend.
