Nashville Police Will Conduct DUI Checkpoints Through Labor Day Weekend

The Metro Nashville Police Department will be paying close attention to local roadways during the holiday weekend.

MNPD said Friday it plans to conduct DUI checkpoints for Labor Day weekend, beginning late Friday afternoon and continuing through the early evening hours of Monday, according to a department media release on Friday.

Officers will reportedly set up a sobriety checkpoint in the Hermitage area Friday afternoon, which will be staffed by the DUI unit and other officers.

"Metro Police officers will be staffing a sobriety checkpoint beginning in the late afternoon/early evening hours of Monday, September 7 (Labor Day) on Bell Road in the Hermitage Precinct," the press release stated.

Metro Police report 41% of fatal crashes in Davidson County involved an impaired driver in 2019.

Additionally, there were also 800 reported crashes involving alcohol with more than 500 injuries in Davidson County.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol is also advising Tennessee residents to avoid driving drunk over the holiday weekend. The department shared a video on its official Facebook page with the caption warning drivers of the dangers of driving drunk.

"No matter where you are traveling in the south, do not make the mistake of driving drunk. The only way to prevent drunk driving crashes is to keep drunk drivers off of our roads," multiple THP troopers said in the video. "That is why we will be here day and night. The holiday weekend will not end well when you are drunk sitting in a jail cell. Drive sober so we won't have to pull you over."
