Friday marks the 19th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks.
Several Middle Tennessee cities and counties will join the rest of the United States in holding ceremonies and events to honor the victims lost in the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. and a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, as well as the many first responders who died while saving the lives of victims.
Many of the events listed will be held virtually in an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Here's a look at some of the ceremonies and events taking place on Friday in Nashville and Middle Tennessee in remembrance of the victims killed on September 11, 2001.
Nashville
- Metro 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony will be held at the Metro Courthouse (One Public Square) at 7:00 a.m.
- Local IAFF 9/11 140 9/11 Memorial Ceremony will be held at Schermerhorn Symphony Center at 8:30 a.m.
- Mission BBQ will provide free meals to first responders on Friday. The restaurant is also hosting the 9/11 memorial flag and the National Anthem will be sung by veterans at 12:00 p.m. The Nashville Fire Department and several other local organizations will be participating in the event.
Franklin
- The Franklin Fire Department is hosting a virtualLive 9/11 memorial tribute ceremony at 8:30 a.m.
Clarksville
- Mayor Joe Pitts and Clarksville Fire Rescue will hold the city's annual 9/11 ceremony at Fire Station 1, beginning at 8:46 a.m. All residents interested in attending must have their temperature checked and face coverings are required.
Maury County
- Maury County's annual 9/11 Memorial Vigil on the Columbia Square will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., which will include a special appearance from former Navy Seal Rob O'Neill, who killed Osama Bin Laden.
Rutherford County
- The Rutherford County Sheriff's Office will hold its annual 9/11 remembrance ceremony virtually on its Facebook page at 9:00 a.m.
