Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez said bars and nightclubs may not reopen until there's a COVID-19 vaccine, according to The Real Deal on Wednesday (September 9).
“I don’t foresee opening bars and nightclubs in the future until we get a vaccine,” Gimenez said.
The news came during the mayor's Wednesday (September 9) virtual conference, where he announced a reduced curfew and reopenings.
Gimenez also addressed movie theaters, which will remain closed, as well.
"The county’s medical advisers 'felt it was better to hold off on that' until after next week," The Real Deal reported.
The curfew will begin at 11 p.m. instead of 10 p.m. starting on Monday, September 14. That means some businesses will have an extra hour of operation. The curfew will still end at 6 a.m.
Outdoor attractions like Zoo Miami, bicycle rental businesses, parks and more will begin reopening on Monday (September 14), as well. Tour boats and charter boats can reopen with 50% capacity.
Other venues, including indoor attractions and playgrounds, will remain closed.
"We want to make sure that we continue to limit the spread of the virus before we move on to any other openings," Gimenez said. "You can't let down your guard."
