Alligator Attacks Florida Woman While She Was Trimming Trees

A Florida woman was hospitalized after an alligator attack Thursday (September 10) morning, NBC Miami reported on Friday (September 11).

The 27-year-old woman was trimming trees near a lake in North Fort Myers, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

FWC officials added that the 10-foot long gator ambushed her while she was working.

"Rescue workers transported the woman to a Fort Myers hospital, where she was treated for injuries to both legs, officials said. She was listed in stable condition," according to NBC Miami.

After the incident, the suspected reptile was captured and removed from the area. FWC confirmed they contracted a nuisance alligator trapper to get the gator.

"Although many Floridians have learned to coexist with alligators, the potential for conflict always exists. Serious injuries caused by alligators are rare in Florida, but if you are concerned about an alligator, call FWC’s toll-free Nuisance Alligator Hotline at 866-392-4286," according to FWC's webpage on living with alligators.

In late August, a Polk County deputy responded to a call for a reported alligator in a shed. It wasn't what he expected.

FWC also announced that it's rattlesnake breeding season and not to worry about potential snake bites; these are rare, too.
