Kim Kardashian’s latest fashion endeavor is rubbing some fans the wrong way.
The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star has been facing backlash ever since she announced her shapewear brand, Skims, would be expanding with a maternity line. “What you’ve been waiting for: @Skims Maternity is coming soon!” the 39-year-old wrote on Instagram with an advert showing pregnant models wearing her new solutionwear apparel. “Introducing Maternity Solutionwear that offers the best in comfort and support for your changing body during and after pregnancy.”
Taking to her Instagram Stories, Kardashian added that her upcoming Skims launch, releasing in nine colors on September 16, would also feature a maternity “sculpting bra” and a mid-thigh bodysuit with a “non-compressive core” for growing baby bumps but also “lifts, smooths and shapes thighs and butt.”
“If only there were cute bras that were holding you up and snatching you and making you feel better about yourself while you can breastfeed, that would have been everything to me,” the reality star said while modeling the maternity bra.
Despite Kardashian’s excitement about her upcoming Skims launch, dropping in nine colors on September 16, mommies and other commenters didn’t receive the launch all that well.
“Why would you put shapewear on your pregnant belly?” one user commented, as another wrote, “I’m sure that’s the one thing pregnant women need above all! Being pressed to a slimmer figure.”
Someone else tweeted, “Excuse my ignorance but who’s trynna shape their pregnant bodies? Y’all don’t like being comfy and free and loose when pregnant? It’s pretty much the only time you can be as shapeless and free and comfy as you want!”
Backlash aside, the mommy-of-four's new Skims line has already earned the stamp of approval by pregnant stars like Desi Perkins and family friend Khadijah Haqq McCray, who wrote, "🙌🏾 Just in time for my growing bump Yayyyy."
