Owners of bars and nightclubs in Miami-Dade County were voicing their frustrations over COVID-19 restrictions, according to NBC Miami on Sunday (September 13).
"Owners and employees of bars and restaurants in Miami-Dade and Broward counties held protests in Wynwood and Fort Lauderdale, demanding a call to action," the website reported.
On Monday (September 14), Miami-Dade entered Phase 2 of reopening. Several businesses were allowed to open their doors to customers again, including outdoor attractions, bike rental businesses, boats and parks. The county curfew will now begin at 11 p.m., in-person instruction for schools is permitted for the first time in six months.
The only types of businesses who have not gotten the green light to reopen are bars and nightclubs in Miami-Dade.
“You lose all your employees, PPP and SBA only go so far. No one expected us to close for six months," Jose Estrada of Centro Wynwood said to NBC Miami. "Either keep paying us to stay closed or let us open and let us work."
Gov. Ron DeSantis has allowed the rest of Florida to reopen their bars and nightclubs, but Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez suggested that those types of businesses may stay closed until until there is a COVID-19 vaccine.
