Chicago Cubs, Cleveland Indians Delay 7 Minutes For Drone In Left Field

When Willson Contreras stepped up to the plate at the bottom of the fifth, he encountered an unusual distraction.

Something was flying over the stands near left-center.

The Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Indians paused Wednesday (September 16) night’s game for a drone that landed in the outfield.

Umpires called in players who were on the field to return to the dugouts before the drone descended and landed in Wrigley Field.

But last night wasn't the only time an MLB game delayed because of a drone.

On September 2, umpires and New York Yankees and the Tampa Bay Rays players began pointing and looking up during the game. Like Wednesday night in Chicago, the field cleared and the game resumed later.

The Cubs pulled a 3-2 victory against the Indians following the seven-minute drone delay.
