Dallas Man Is First To Have Cancer Cured By Robotic Procedure

A Dallas man's lung cancer has been cured after undergoing a robotic procedure. He is the first in North Texas to undergo the procedure that doctors say is a game-changer in the fight against cancer.

The 85-year old, Jere Bone, told Fox 4 News, "It's a blessing. I feel wonderful. I just really feel great."

The man was suspected to have early stage lung cancer after a routine chest x-ray.

"I grew up in East Texas. We smoked and drank beer when we could sneak it and that, you know, it didn't occur to me at all. Emphysema, maybe. Okay, I gave that some thought because that's in my family history, but not cancer," Bone stated.

A new technology at Medical City Plano gave doctors the chance to use a robotic camera to go into Bone's windpipe and deep into his lungs to test the tissue and remove the cancer.

Dr. Crescens Pellecchia performed the surgery. He stated, "This procedure with Jere was special in that we were able to biopsy, get a diagnosis, and basically cure his cancer all in the same setting, which is virtually unheard of."

Bone was able to to return home to his family one day after the procedure.
