President Donald Trump Will Head To Newport News For Friday Rally

President Donald Trump's campaign team announced Tuesday that he will be heading to Newport News on Friday for a campaign rally at Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport. The event will begin at 9 p.m. September 25, but doors will open at 6 p.m. When registering for tickets, attendees agree to a waiver that releases the campaign and venue from liability if they were to contract COVID-19.

President Trump's campaign team hasn't announced a theme for Friday night's event or any topics he will discuss, according to 13 News Now. However, the president has said he would announce his pick to replace the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg by the weekend. Justice Ginsburg died at age 87 on September 18 after serving nearly three decades on the nation's highest court.

This is not the president's first trip to the area. According to WAVY, he spoke in Newport News in 2017 and visited Hampton Roads last year to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the first assembly at Jamestown.

Politico reports that President Trump's visit to Virginia is an attempt to "woo" voters in North Carolina, a battleground state where absentee balloting has already begun for the November election. A recent poll showed former Vice President Joe Biden holding a slim lead over Trump in North Carolina.
