There are about 10 million adults in the United States who are vegan or vegetarian. However, it isn't the easiest lifestyle to adopt. Many cities don't accommodate the meatless lifestyle well, while others offer plentiful and inexpensive options for their herbivores.
A recent Wallethub study ranked the top US cities for vegans and vegetarians.
Austin landed a spot in the top ten on the website's "2020's Best Cities for Vegans and Vegetarians" list.
The city came in at number ten with an overall score of 50.02 out of 100.
The scores are based on three key dimensions: affordability; diversity, accessibility, and quality; and vegetarian lifestyle. Each of the three dimensions were judged using 16 relevant metrics such as cost of groceries, share of restaurants serving vegan and vegetarian options, and vegetable and fruit consumption, among others.
Portland, Oregon took the number one spot this year with a score of 62.43.
Two cities in California took second and third place. Los Angeles came in second, followed by San Francisco in third.
There were no other Texas cities in the top ten on the list. However, Irving and Lubbock weren't far behind, ranking numbers 14 and 19, respectively.
