Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban stepped up to help one of his former players who has fallen on tough times. TMZ reported that Cuban picked up ex-NBA star Delonte West at a convenience store in north Dallas in the hopes of connecting West with his family.
A Snapchat video shows a willowy West on the phone inside the store before Cuban pulls up in his Tesla. Cuban reportedly took West to a hotel and offered to pay for the 37-year-old West to go rehab.
Social media photos and videos shared this week show a very thin West with a cardboard sign asking for money on the streets of Dallas. Some people offered him a few bucks because they recognized the man who played nine seasons in the NBA.
After the photos surfaced, Doc Rivers, former teammates, and the National Basketball Players Association tried to get in touch with West for months but had no luck, according to TMZ. West started his career in 2004 playing for the Boston Celtics under Rivers.
West has had issues with his mental health since his playing days. He was taking medication and going to therapy for depression and bipolar disorder when he was with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2008. He previously opened up to the Washington Post about how his mental health has impacted his career and life. Since he has left the NBA, multiple photos of West on the streets have appeared online.
