FedEx Looks To Hire 70,000 Workers Ahead Of Holiday Season

The holiday season is quickly approaching and shipping companies are preparing for a busy one. Memphis-based FedEx is adding more than 70,000 positions to help get mail and packages delivered on time, according to WMC 5. Of the new positions, 3,300 will be in Bluff City.

WMC 5 spoke with FedEx Express' senior vice president Shannon Brown on Wednesday (September 30) to discuss the new positions and why Brown think this will be the company's busiest holiday season.

"We think that everyone is going to spend more time online, which is going to drive a lot of ecommerce business, which would drive the need for more transportation to pick up and deliver those shipments," he said. "And that's where we are the best at doing that. And so, we are expecting a huge peak season this year."

Earlier this month, President and Chief Operating Officer Raj Subramaniam predicted that the upcoming holiday season will be "unprecented" and announced the company will implement enhancements to meet the demand, such as "the acceleration of FedEx Ground's seven-day a week residential delivery," KTVU reports.
