Ohio Sen. Brown Sounds Off On Trump Tweet: 'Don't Be Afraid Of COVID'

Sen. Sherrod Brown took to Twitter to rebut President Donald Trump’s encouragement of Americans not to fear COVID-19, despite the ongoing pandemic as health officials strive to release a vaccine to combat the deadly virus.

More than 200,000 Americans have died of COVID-19 as of Monday afternoon (October 5), according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Trump contracted the virus, along with First Lady Melania Trump and others. The president spent the weekend at Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. He announced that he plans to leave Monday evening.

“Don’t be afraid of Covid,” Trump advised in a tweet announcing his plans to depart from the hospital. “Don’t let it dominate your life. We have developed, under the Trump Administration, some really great drugs & knowledge. I feel better than I did 20 years ago!”

That didn’t sit well with some, including Brown.

Brown responded, advising the president to “tell that to all the Americans who - unlike you - DON’T have access to the best healthcare in the world, funded entirely by taxpayers.”

“Tell that to the families of the 200,000+ Americans who have died from COVID-19,” he continued in another tweet. “Tell that to the essential workers risking their lives every day. And you’re STILL in court right now fighting to take away healthcare from millions of Americans.”

Dr. Sean Conley, Trump’s physician, confirmed that the president’s condition has improved enough for him to return to the White House, though he’s not “out of the woods” yet.
