Days after Senator Thom Tillis announced he had tested positive for COVID-19, a spokesman for his campaign says he is feeling well and continues to improve. On Sunday night, spokesman Adam Webb issued a statement and provided an update on Sen. Tillis.
"Senator Tillis continues to self-isolate at home and is feeling well," he said. "His mild symptoms from yesterday have significantly improved and the only lingering symptom is the loss of his sense of taste and smell. Thom and his wife Susan remain grateful for the well wishes they've received from North Carolinians."
After his diagnosis, Tillis said he would self-isolate for 10 days and that he would temporarily halt in-person campaigning for his reelection, ABC 13 News reports. Several people who attended a White House Rose Garden ceremony for Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett have since tested positive for the virus. Tillis was also in attendance but was wearing a mask, a measure he has supported.
Tillis was one of three Republican senators who tested positive for COVID-19 since Friday, joining Utah Sen. Mike Lee and Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson, CBS News reports. Their diagnoses come after President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump announced Thursday they both tested positive.
