Nashville Airport Resuming First International Flight Since March

Nashville International Airport will resume its first nonstop international flight since March.

The airport announced Southwest Airlines will resume nonstop service to Cancun on its official Twitter account Thursday morning.

The flights will begin service on November 7 and only run on Saturdays through the end of 2020, FOX 17 News reports. Southwest Airlines will reportedly be evaluating booking and make a decision on whether to continue the service in 2021.

“This news signals strengthened confidence in travel, and we welcome this renewed opportunity for travelers in Middle Tennessee and beyond,” said Doug Kreulen, BNA president and CEO, on Thursday via FOX 17 News. “We’re delighted that Southwest Airlines is growing options for the community we serve.”

Nashville International Airport has added more nonstop flights departing from its airport each year as it continues its expansion. Last month, the airport announced a new nonstop flight to Phoenix, which will begin on November 4, the Nashville Business Journal reports.

In 2018, the airport began nonstop international service to London with an inaugural British Airways flight, the Nashville Business Journal reports. The initial flight came after years of longing and lobbying by the city's business community.
