Capturing 2020: Clevelanders Get Creative With COVID-Themed Halloween Decor

Joshua Davis and Marija Lasic always decorate extravagantly to celebrate Halloween, and 2020 left them with no shortage of timely material to work with.

Neighbors, passersby and others have been drawn to their coronavirus-inspired display, complete with masked and virus-ridden skeletons, disinfectant and other cleaning products, skeletons pushing a shopping cart filled with toilet paper (an ode to a true 2020 scare) and more, marking the novel pandemic year.

Spotlights placed throughout the yard — and lights in a skeleton's eyes — make for a great, spooky nighttime display.

Davis said this year, he and Lasic threw the decorations together relatively quickly at the request of neighbors and others who look forward to seeing what they pull together.

So, they delivered annual spectators a sense of normalcy, opting to do so by capturing the truly unusual year.

It's tradition for Davis and Lasic to host Halloween parties and go all-out with decorations (as they do at Christmas, too).

In previous years, they've have transformed their Cleveland home and yard into a haunted funhouse, a bloody slaughterhouse, a creepy Catholic school and other elaborate themes.

Though this year has been different, and the COVID-19-themed decor was relatively quick for Davis and Lasic, it’s certainly been — and continues to be — attention-grabbing for those looking to get into the Halloween spirit.
