Kelly Clarkson Reveals Her Children Are Receiving Therapy Amid Divorce

Kelly Clarkson is making the rounds to promote Season 19 of The Voice and is being asked about the elephant in the room: her ongoing divorce from Brandon Blackstock.

In a new interview with Extra’s Nate Burleson, Clarkson and her fellow Voice judge Gwen Stefani spoke about managing family issues in the public limelight. “It’s just one day when you’re like, ‘Wow, this has forever changed and it’s not just my heart has changed, there’s other little hearts, too,'" the singer said of her divorce. Clarkson and Brandon share two children together: River Rose, 6, and Remington Alexander,4.

Asked why she feels the need to be so transparent, the American Idol alum said it’s all about her support system. "I have a great family and friends that are there for me,” she explained. “It’s a very hard thing to navigate, to be able to be honest and share your story, so maybe you can help someone else, but at the same time protecting these little kids you adore."

"We have a lot of help as far as therapists or child psychologists 'cause we want to do it right," she continued. "Everyone’s sad and it’s okay to be sad."

Stefani, who has had her own share of public breakups in the spotlight, admitted that she and Clarkson have been talking a lot about the topic, too. "We're so lucky to have music as an outlet for everything we all go through," she confessed. "Music is such therapy when you’re a writer."

Expect to see more of Clarkson and Stefani when Season 19 of The Voice premieres on NBC on September 19.
