A naked man, allegedly armed with a gun, was shot during a confrontation with police officers at Hollywood Beach, NBC Miami reported. Officers responded to reports of a naked man walking around the area near Ocean Drive before at the intersection of Surf road and Missouri Street around 11 p.m. Monday (October 12). When authorities found the unidentified man, they noticed he had a gun and attempted to de-escalate the situation.
Investigators said the man did not comply with officers, forcing them to shoot at him. "I heard the officers yelling at him, 'Get down, get down' ... the guy was just standing there. I couldn't see if he pointed it at them, but all of a sudden, they lit off, and it sounded like a pack of firecrackers going off," a witness told NBC Miami.
The unknown man was transported to an area hospital, and his condition is unknown. No officers were injured during the incident. Tuesday morning (October 13), officers were still at the scene and closed off an area with yellow tape. NBC Miami said there was a white Nissan sedan in the area, which was towed away from the scene. Officers also recovered the man's gun. Officials with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement are investigating the incident.
