As Halloween creeps closer every day, many people have wondered how the pandemic will affect their celebrations. On Tuesday, Shelby County officials helped clear up any confusion by stating that Halloween parties will not be permitted this year.
Shelby County Health Department officials said parties, carnivals, festivals, parades, and haunted houses are not permitted, even if held outdoors, because they encourage large numbers of people to gather together. Additionally, health officials say that trick-or-treating is not recommended this year, nor is trunk-or-treating, as it is difficult to socially distance.
Some safer activities the health department recommends are online parties and contests, drive-by events, Halloween movie nights at drive-in theaters, and decorating your house.
The health department also said the public should continue personal protection measures issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. You should stay home if you are sick or have been in contact with someone who has COVID-19. Wash your hands often and sanitize surfaces regularly. Facial coverings are still one of the best ways to limit the spread of coronavirus, and with Halloween and the holidays coming up, why not find some themed masks to celebrate?
