Where And How To Vote in San Antonio

Have questions about voting in San Antonio or Bexar County? Here are answers to some of the most commonly asked questions.

How I know if I can vote?

You can check your voter registration at the Bexar County Election Department's website. If you are not registered to vote, you can download a form at the Texas Secretary of State website, but you will not be eligible to vote for the November election.

Who's on the ballot?

A sample ballot with all of the area's races can be found here. A personalized sample ballot can be found at the Election Department's website with your home address. For more information about individual races and candidates, the League of Woman Voters of the San Antonio area and the San Antonio Express-News both have nonpartisan voter guides.

What do I need to vote?

All voters in Texas will have to show a valid state or federal ID card. A full list of acceptable ID cards can be found at VoteTexas.gov.

Is voting in person safe this year?

The chances of catching the coronavirus while voting in-person should be minimal and is about as risky as grocery shopping.

Polling places will also be following COVID-19 regulations. Poll workers and voters are expected to wear masks. Voters can also request a stylus if they do not want to touch the voting machine's screen.

Polling places will also provide hand sanitizer and wipe down machines in between voters. Voting may take slightly longer than in past years because of the extra steps being taken to keep everyone safe.

What if I don't what to vote in person?

The county election department must receive your application for a mail-in ballot by October 23 at 5 p.m. It might be too late to mail in the application now, but they can also be hand-delivered to early voting clerk 1103 S. Frio, Suite 200 by the 5 p.m. deadline.

Mail-in ballots must be postmarked by Election Day, November 3 to be counted. They can also be returned to the election department's office on South Frio Street.

Where can I vote in person?

From now until October 30 when early voting ends, you can vote at any polling location in the county. On Election Day, you most vote in your precinct, which can be found on the election department's website.
