Texas Woman With COVID-19 Died On Flight From Las Vegas, Not Arizona

Conflicting information has emerged about the Texas woman with COVID-19 who died aboard an airplane earlier this year.

It was initially reported earlier this week that a woman in her 30s from Garland, Texas, died on a plane before it took off from an Arizona airport on July 25. The news was made public by Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins months after the woman's death because officials only recently learned that the woman was positive with COVID-19.

Now it's being reported the woman was actually flying to Dallas from Las Vegas, not Arizona, via Spirit on July 24. The flight was diverted to Albuquerque, New Mexico, after an "unresponsive female" was reported aboard the plane.

The woman died before the plane landed at the Albuquerque International Sunport, a spokeswoman with the airport told the Dallas Morning News.

Jenkins' chief of staff told the newspaper the earlier information about the flight coming from Arizona was incorrect.

The number of people on the diverted Spirit plane has not been released and it is not known if they were notified about being exposed to the coronavirus, the Washington Post reported.

The woman's name and other identifying information has not been released to protect her privacy. The positive result of the women's coronavirus test did not come back until after her death so it is very likely that she did not know she had COVID-19.
