Where does Massachusetts rank among the most hated states in America?
A study by BestLifeOnline.com ranked Massachusetts as the 25th most hated state among Americans.
The study calculated its results based the following factors:
- Population increase or decrease in each state to the national average of 0.6%, based on the U.S. Census Bureau.
- Which residents felt the most pride in their home states based on percentage of people who agreed their state was "the best or one of the best possible states to live." States with the least pride ranked higher on the "Hatred Index."
- Other states that hate it and a combined population of each state.
- Results from a poll of 320,000 Instagram users conducted by illustrator and amateur researcher Matt Shirley on which state they hated the most.
Massachusetts had a population change of 0.4% compared to the U.S. average; 46% state pride; three states that hate it (Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont), which had combined population of 3,327,912; and a hatred index of 81.
