Local Nashville Honky Tonk Musician Killed In Highway Crash

A local Nashville honky tonk musician was reportedly killed in a crash involving a stalled semi on Interstate 65 Sunday night.

Shawn Scruggs, who played the lower Broadway bars for more than a decade, was killed in the highway crash, Tootsie's entertainment confirmed in an official statement, FOX 17 News reports.

"His talent could have taken him all over the world. We were blessed to have him grace our stages," the statement read.

Metro Police confirmed Scruggs crashed into a stalled semi on I-65 North near Dickerson Pike at around 7:00 p.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene, FOX 17 News reports.

Several local musicians paid tribute to Scruggs on social media after news of his death on Monday, including fellow John Stone, who said Scruggs played a live show earlier in the day.

"This dude right here filled in for me on bass more times than I can remember over the years and I liked him instantly," Stone wrote in a Facebook post featuring photos of Scruggs. "He played his last show today and was killed in a car crash tonight on I-65. Shawn Scruggs was a good dude, a good bass player, and a good friend. Y’all please say a little prayer for his family. This is a terrible loss all the way around and will be felt by so many.

Stone's post was shared by Tootsie's official Twitter account, which added, "we could not have said it any better oursevlves. Shawn was family to all of us. Thanks for sharing John. Rest In Peace Shawn. Love you."
