Florida Congressman Pushes For Year-Round Daylight Saving Time Bill

Ever think about Daylight Saving Time all-year round? That's what Florida Rep. Vern Buchanan is pushing for as Americans prepare to set their clocks back this coming weekend, WTSP reported on Monday (October 26). For years, Florida congressmen have advocated for the Sunshine Protection Act, which would prevent Americans from "falling back" in time come November. Senators Rick Scott and Marco Rubio have also pushed for this bill in Congress, and Buchanan is the latest supporter.

“There are enormous health and economic benefits to making daylight saving time permanent,” Buchanan said. “Florida lawmakers have already voted to make daylight saving time permanent in my home state and Congress should pass the Sunshine Protection Act to move Florida and the rest of the country to year-round daylight saving time.”

The bill would also avoid changing clocks in March 2021, where time springs forwards for Americans. "The Sunshine Protection Act was signed into law in Florida in March 2018 by then-Governor Rick Scott, but Congress still has to pass legislation allowing Florida to have year-round Daylight Saving Time," according to WTSP.

Daylight saving time ends on Sunday, November 1, and starts again on March 14.
