It appears Julianne Hough and Brooks Laich made a conscious effort to save their romance before calling it quits, but an explosive fight recently occurred and that didn't help their final decision.
As per a new Us Weekly report, an insider explained that the TV personality, 32, and the former NHL player, 37, "had a lot of back-and-forth moments" before Hough decided to file for divorce on Monday. "Julianne and Brooks just can’t get past their problems," the source exclusively told the outlet. "Julianne had a dinner party with friends a few months ago, which Brooks came to. They were trying to be lovey-dovey with each other and have a good night with a few friends, but Brooks ended up bringing up some of their issues in front of everyone and it became a big fight."
Hough and Laich quarantined separately at the top of the COVID-19 lockdown, with Hough in Los Angeles and Laich in Idaho. Shortly after, Hough reportedly wanted to give the romance another shot, per an insider. Hough and Laich were seen spending time with one another in recent months, particularly for the former's intimate poolside birthday gathering, but their issues kept arising.
Per ET, the two gave it a go, but it just didn't pan out. "Julianne and Brooks gave it their all and finally came to the realization that they aren’t meant to be together," a source recently told the outlet. "The extra time they spent together after their separation was needed and they are both in a good place."
