Don't worry, there hasn't been a shark attack. Instead, one of the largest Great White sharks pinged Thursday morning (November 5) in the Florida Keys, according to Local 10.
OCEARCH, an organization that helps scientists collect data in the ocean, said the shark was lurking out in the Atlantic until it pinged Sunday (November 1) off Vero Beach. Named Unama'ki, it pinged again off Key Largo around 5:46 a.m. Thursday. The shark also pinged off Nova Scotia, Canada two months ago.
Unama’ki is more than 15 feet long and weighs more than 2,000 pounds, Local 10 wrote. "The name Unama’ki comes from the indigenous Mi’kmaq people in Nova Scotia and means 'Land of the Fog,' according to the website.
The last time a shark was in the news for South Florida, a man was arrested after a video surfaced of a small nurse shark swimming in a pool. The video was sent to a Florida wildlife agency, which uncovered more illegal acts with protected animals. In early October, a man was bitten by a black tip shark in Miami Beach.
