A truck driver trying to get through stormy weather accidentally drove his 18-wheeler off the side of the Palmetto Expressway, according to Local 10. The incident happened Monday morning (November 9) near Northwest 47th in Miami Gardens.
After the crash, an employee from a nearby restaurant told Local 10 that the driver took about seven or eight minutes to get out of the truck. The driver was not hurt in the incident, and no other vehicles appeared to be involved in the crash.
“This is my first time that I’ve seen this,” one man said. “I was getting ready to go to the store, get some coffee, some bread – can’t do none of that.” Local 10 said two westbound lanes were closed as authorities worked to remove the truck that was hanging over the side of the overpass.
Flooding was reported in Miami-Dade, Broward and Monroe counties after Tropical Storm Eta brought heavy rain and rain to the Sunshine State over the weekend. In Miami-Dade County, authorities rescued a driver from a submerged vehicle. Officials said the driver drove into a canal, where nighttime and floodwaters obscured the parking lot.
