3 Workers Arrested After Death At Memphis Care Facility

Three caregivers have been arrested and charged in connection to the death of a Memphis man at a care facility. Sharon Fleming, Brandon Carter, and Kanisha Harris were indicted for crimes relating to the murder of John Bulmanski, a person they were providing care for last year.

"Far too often, the abuser is the caregiver," said Shelby County District Attorney Amy Weirich.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation found that three caregivers did not report an incident involving 59-year-old Bulmanski who suffered an injury in July 2019 while being transported. When he was taken to the hospital the following day, doctors saw he had a broken neck. When he died in April 2020, investigators said it was a result from the 2019 incident.

"Because of the pandemic we have less eyes on our vulnerable adults, and we really have to appeal to the common decency of all of our citizens," she said.

Weirich continued, "They are some of our most valuable and vulnerable citizens in our community. In those cases where it's too late and a death has occurred, we've got to do everything we can to make sure that person never harms another citizen."

Fleming and Carter were charged with first degree murder during the perpetration of aggravated neglect of a vulnerable or elderly adult, and Harris was charged with facilitation of first degree murder during the perpetration of aggravated neglect of a vulnerable or elderly adult. WMC 5 reports that the three were arrested November 5. The bonds have been set at $200,000 each for Fleming and Carter and $25,000 for Harris.
