The holidays came early for The Cookie Society in Frisco this year because Oprah Winfrey included one of its gift sets on her annual favorite things list.
Winfrey chose the Holiday Dozen Gift Crates as one of her gifts for foodies. It features 12 different types of cookies, ranging from everyday favorites chocolate chip and snickerdoodle to more creative cookies like sweet potato pie and gingersnap cheesecake.
The Cookie Society is one of 50 Black-owned businesses Winfrey decided to highlight in her list, which came out this week.
"Because so many people want to support Black lives any way they can, we’ve found dozens of absolutely gorgeous gifts from Black-owned businesses that deserve to be celebrated, because we believe Black lives—and Black businesses—matter. So for 2020, most of my Favorite Things are from Black-owned or -led companies," Winfrey wrote in the list's introduction.
The boutique bakery is owned by Jeff and Marissa Allen. The couple started the business in 2018 by selling cookies online and shipping them across the nation. They opened their first brick-and-mortar store on 9320 Dallas Pkwy, Suite 160 in Frisco in April.
Despite opening a store in the middle of a pandemic, the Allens told NBC DFW in April that business has been good.
