Man Charged With Murder In Relation To Body Discovered Inside Car In Aug.

A man has been charged in relation to a murder case that stemmed from the discovery of a dead body inside a vehicle by Memphis Police in August.

Charles Bright, also known as 'Charles Lott,' 32, was charged with second degree murder and employment of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, FOX13 Memphis reports.

A Memphis Police Department affidavit obtained by FOX13 states police responded to a call on August 27 and discovered a man found shot inside a Lexus on Burns Avenue. The victim appeared to have multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the victim's vehicle had rolled into another parked vehicle on the street prior to the department's arrival.

Officers also discovered shell casings approximately 30-40 feet behind the victim's car. An investigator interviewed the victim's girlfriend the following day and she told police the victim had instructed her to sell drugs to a man on the day of the shooting.

The man had reportedly given her $150, which she then gave to the victim, according to her testimony via the affidavit. The victim then realized some of the money was counterfeit and brought a gun with him to try to contact the man about it.

The girlfriend said she attempted to call the victim but couldn't get in touch with him and the man reportedly told her the victim had not shown up to confront him.

The girlfriend said she then received a call notifying her that her boyfriend had been shot shortly after, according to the affidavit via FOX13.

The mother of the victim told police her son was shot by a man named "Charles Lott," who investigators discovered also used the name Charles Bright on his driver's license. A witness said "Charles Lott" claimed he shot the victim in self defense because he was being threatened.

Investigators discovered Bright had disconnected his cell phone service shortly after the shooting incident took place, prior to placing him into custody, FOX13 reports.
